Not Goodbye!

To all my dear listeners to the 'Dear Amber' show, ni hao! See, I promised, 'xiaci jian'!

OK, so in order to keep in touch and milk our found togetherness I have resorted, or it could be said, 'succumbed', to the world of internet geekdom.

Oh my god... I am a blogger.

And I find myself strangely excited by the prospect. I have so much to tell! And you know I like to talk (fast). I was touched and honoured (yes, Canadian spelling since you cannot hear my 'aboot' in this form of media) by all the emails and love received from listeners to the show. I shared so much of my China life, impressions and laughs with you all, and you with me; therefore, let's keep it going... yeah!

The blog will be about life for this China-fied gal upon re-entry to the real world... Observations and intrigue of New Life in New York City... up the street from Chinatown. I promise to try not to write anything boring. ;)

'Dear Amber... Continued.' The New York City Chapter... Stay tuned! :D

  7. G'day Amber,

So great that you've started a blog so we can all keep in touch.I love the audio clip you chose in your profile.Definitely one of my fav DA episodes, though it's so hard to choose 'cos they're all great. Thanks so much for all you did. Can't wait to see where this next chapter will lead.Nothing would surprise me.Movies ? [how cool if you could put some of your Chinese in there in like a Jackie Chan movie or something that mixes East and West],talk show host? [you could be bigger than Oprah].Anyhow, best of luck.Keep reaching for the stars.:)

  8. It's so funny that you live near Chinatown! When I moved back to the West from Shanghai to Toronto I was way more comfortable in Chinatown than anywhere else... In fact sometimes I think I still am. As they say, "you can take the boy out of China but you can never take the China out of the boy." And you know what, it's a good thing.

Will miss your podcasts. Best of luck in NYC.

    Must zou.

  9. Interestingly, I felt more at home in Flushing (post to come about that) than in the Chinatown in the city. Flushing seems way more 'mainland'. The fake bags are realllly overpriced here, jeesh. Maybe I should become a watch, bag, dvd woman.

  10. Hi Amber

Great that you have this blog! All the best in NYC and I look forward to reading your blogs. In the meantime, time for some DA reruns, maybe the one about keeping warm in the Chinese winter. You must be loving the central heating in NYC!

  11. What's this? You're going to keep it to just one blog a day? Come on, we're constantly refreshing this page to see if there are any more! Should at least be one per hour...

  12. @ Alex, what? i don't know the rules of blogging. maybe i will never shut up, haha.

@ stephen, yes, believe me, I will likely spout on for 2 pages about how wonderfully hot my apartment is. oh the sweet sound of the radiator pinging and my parched throat waking up in the dehydrated morning...

  17. Yeah, what happened to the other post? My suggestion was the Freedom Tower being built on the World Trade Centre site. Was there something offensive that it needed to be deleted?

  18. um, oops. i'm still learning, i deleted my second blog entry by accident!!! please forgive me :D i'd try to get it back but i don't know how!! booooo

  19. No worries.I've never blogged before either and thought it could have been that;easy mistake.Your blog so you'd be free to delete anyway.Just glad there was no offence.I thought the World Trade Centre site rebuilding is considered quintessentially NY and symbolic of their spirit. The Freedom Tower is supposedly going to be one of the tallest buildings in North America when it is completed and thus could symbolically parallel the rise of your new career.Cheers.

  23. Hi Amber, long time listener of DA here. I was so sorry to learn you've left Chinese pod but I think it's great you've followed your heart to do what you want to do. I'm glad you haven't abandoned us and have started this blog. I hope it's a jumping off point for great and interesting things for you. If you ever visit Toronto, let us know. I'm sure you have lots of fans/friends and we would love to have a meet-up. Xia ci jian!

  26. Dear Amber, where art thou?

  27. Hi, Amber, there were some rumours that you started another podcast on Chinese.
Could you please share a link if that's true?

    ReplyDelete
  28. I've been listening to you - you are just a font of information! When we were in China 17 years ago, I got to see first-hand how overseas Chinese (my wife) are treated. A male ticket-seller in the Shanghai train station started yelling at her and she almost started crying (very unusual for her, although so was the situation).

If you are ever in Seattle, let us know! We'd love to ching you (and JP) for dinner. Chinese food, of course! We'll have good stories to share by then (we're going to Shanghai/Chengdu/Xian/Beijing on Saturday for 3 weeks with our 3 teenage sons) - if we make it back alive!
